Steady as She Goes® is a Proven Winner's® Gardenia that does exactly as the name suggests, blooming steadily with continuous blooms from spring until frost! The fragrant, white flowers look fantastic against the dark green evergreen foliage. It has excellent heat tolerance and its double blossoms keep coming all year and they won't fall to the ground in the middle of summer. This shrub is compact, well-branched, upright and it has increased cold tolerance too. And because she has a compact growth habit with a wider than tall habit, it is perfect for the front of the border where you can enjoy its fragrant flowers from spring to fall, or in containers on your deck. Site these near patios, gathering areas, windows, or walkways to enjoy the lovely, sweet fragrance!

Flower buds are formed on old wood, so the best time to prune it is just after flowering, usually around early summer. Avoid heavy structural pruning as gardenias prefer gentle shaping. For best results on overwintering gardenias is to bring indoors in colder climates and give it indirect light. Water sparingly in winter and do not fertilize until springtime. If leaving outdoors in a cold environment, be sure to choose a well-protected area and usually a south-facing wall and shelter from the north winds. Make sure there is good drainage and add 1-2 inches of mulch, pine straw or shredded bark around the root zone. This helps keep soil temperatures stable. Sudden freezing winds or fluctuating temperatures cause dieback.
